Alopecia is auto-immune - the body’s own immune system attacks the follicle.This can be demonstrated with drugs that suppress the immune system like FK-506.Steroids can also help in a similar way. However suppression of the immune system is probably not a wise way to go longer term.

Stress is known to bring on the condition, so we ask the obvious question : what elements could the body be using up in larger quantities that would throw the intricate working of the immune system out of balance.
